Daniel Burkhardt
Daniel Burkhardt was born in 1977 in Bochum, Germany. He studied Media Art at the Academy of Media Arts [KHM] in Cologne where he now lives and works. His video and audio visual installations playful and ingeniously expose human perception as the driving motor behind the construction of meaning.
Since 2004, his work has regularly been included in a wide range of exhibitions and screenings at museums, galleries and video and short film festivals including the Centre Pompidou Paris, the Museum Reina Sofia Madrid, the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt, the New York Video Festival, the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. In 2009 he presented his first major solo exhibition at the Glaskasten Marl Sculpture Museum. This was followed by further solo exhibitions at the Zendai Contemporary Art Exhibition Hall in Shanghai and the Bochumer Kunstverein. His installation ›TIDE‹ was created in part in residency at PACT in 2009 and presented here the same year during an ATELIER. Other exhibited work at PACT includes ›Die Botschaft‹ (2010).
Daniel Burkhardt has received numerous awards including the GWK Sponsorship Award and the Marl Video Art Award. In 2012 he was awarded a scholarship by the Stiftung Kunstfonds.In 2015 he won the main award at the 28. Stuttgarter Filmwinter for his video work ›In Other Words‹ which he subsequently also presented at PACT during the ›ATELIER Spezial‹ edition in March.
