Suna Göncü
The child of Turkish immigrants, Suna Göncü was born in Recklinghausen in 1969. From 1987 to 1992 she took a degree course in sports science at the German Sport University Cologne where she majored in Elementary Dance with Graziela Padilla. Following this, she joined the professional dancer's course at the Folkwang Academy in Essen where her teachers included Lutz Förster, Libby Nye, Malou Airaudo and Brian Bertscher. Suna Göncü began her choreographic career with the Cologne dance ensemble Terza E Uno. In 1998 she founded the company YOLtanz (formerly known as YOL Tanzensemble) Since then she has created the productions "NAFS", "Die Seiltänzer" and "zeiträume". In 2000 Suna Göncü was awarded a scholarship for choreography from the Stiftung Kunst und Kultur des Landes NRW that enabled her to study in London for several months. A further scholarship from the same foundation secured her a research period in Istanbul in the spring of 2002.
