Wen Hui is a pioneer of Chinese contemporary dance theater. She is a choreographer, dancer and documentary filmmaker. She graduated in choreography from Beijing Dance Academy in 1989 and studied modern dance in New York in 1994. Together with filmmaker Wu Wenguang, she founded China`s first independent dance theater group, »Living Dance Studio«. Wen Hui’s work has attracted much international attention. In 2021, she received the official Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Goethe Medal.
