Emily Coates
... received her dance training at the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater School, the School of American Ballet, and the Merce Cunningham Studio. After receiving the School of American Ballet's Mae L. Wien Award for Outstanding Promise in 1992, she joined the New York City Ballet, where she danced featured roles in works by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Peter Martins, and Angelin Preljocaj. In 1998, she became a member of White Oak Dance Project. She has also performed with Twyla Tharp Dance and in Soon, a play written and directed by Hal Hartley.
