Gerhard Bohner
Gerhard Bohner (DE), born 1936 in Karlsruhe, completed professional training in dance from 1954 to 1958 in Karlsruhe and later at the Mary Wigman Studio in Berlin. Following commitments in Mannheim (1958--60) and Frankfurt am Main (1960--61), he danced ballet at the Deutsche Oper Berlin from 1961 to 1971, as a soloist from 1964 onwards, and started as a choreographer in 1964. 1967 saw the first evening dedicated to Bohner at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. In 1972 (and posthumously in 1992) he was a recipient of the Verband der deutschen Kritiker Prize. From 1972 to 1975 Bohner served as director of the Darmstädter Tanztheater, and from 1978 to 1981 -- in collaboration with Reinhild Hoffmann – of the Bremer Tanztheater. Bohner lived in Berlin, working as a dancer and choreographer, up to his passing on 13 July 1992.
