Gilles Baron
... began his dance training in Bordeaux where, while studying at the Académie Bordelaise de Danse, he won a scholarship to attend the Alvin Ailey School in New York. On returning to France from the USA he initially danced with classical companies at the Opéra de Toulon, the Opéra de Marseille and the Capitole de Toulouse before going on to work with various contemporary dance companies. In 1996 he won the first prize in the duo category for dancers at the Concours International de Danse de la Ville de Paris. As well as performing, Gilles Baron also choreographs and his creations to date include "La 8ème Fosse", "L'image du cri" and "Documento", with which he took part in the 11th Festival de Danse International de Cannes. In 1998 he choreographed the solo "Document 01 solo" for M.C. Pietragalla, prima ballerina with the Opéra de Paris and accompanied her on a world-wide tour. In 1999 he came into contact with the world of circus and directed two pieces for the Ecole Nationale du Cirque de Rosny. He is currently working on a choreography that closely combines elements of dance and circus techniques.
