Karine Denault Company L'AUNE
Karine Denault received her BFA in dance from the Université du Québec à Montréal with the William Douglas Excellence Scholarship in April 1999. She has since performed her own solos in Canada and in Europe, and has been in different dance evaluation committees. She danced in the first Choreographic Seminar organized by José Navas (Flak Company), during which she worked with choreographers Jane Mapin, Richard Siegal and Deborah Dunn. In spring 2001, she created her company: L'AUNE. Karine's work is based on the exploration of the formal possibilities of the body. She attempts to destabilize the dancing body and to reorient its habits and acquired skills. Her piece Échine Barricade (I m mobile) was performed throughout Canada since its creation in 2001. It was also shown in several European cities for the Dance Roads tour of 2004. This year, Karine concurrently works on a trio, set to premiere at Montreal's Tangente in May 2005, and a full-length solo developed as an open laboratory that can be presented at each stage of its creation. For these two pieces, Karine has creation residencies: at Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault and at Circuit Est (Montreal); at Pact Zollverein Choreographisches Zentrum NRW (with support from the Embassy of Canada).
