Richard Siegal
The work of dancer and choreographer Richard Siegal (US/DE/FR) focuses on the interdisciplinary exploration of new forms of contemporary dance. In 1997 he choreographed ›Solo for Janis‹, for Janis Brenner which was nominated for the NY Dance and Performance Award (Bessie Award). From 1997-2004, Siegal danced with William Forsythe's Ballett Frankfurt with which he also presented three of his own works. During this time he also created commissions for, amongst others, Labor G.RAS (Hamburg), Proxima (Athens), the Transitions Dance Company (Laban Centre, London) and the Holland Dance Festival. In 2002, he founded ›The Bakery‹, an organization dedicated to the exploration and production of contemporary performance based in Berlin. Siegal’s works have been shown at renowned festivals and developed and presented at international theaters and cultural institutions in Europe, Asia and America. At PACT Zollverein he performed ›Spy Solo‹ at the end of a residency period in 2004 and appeared again in 2009 with the legendary musician Arto Lindsay in their co-creation ›Muscle‹.In 2004, Siegal was made an honorary member of the Bolshoi Ballet’s Benois de la Danse. In 2008 he was awarded a Bessie and in 2010 the German Theatre Prize ›Der Faust‹ in the category best dancer/performer. He is on the faculty of D.A.N.C.E. and American Dance Festival for which he also curates the annual Forsythe Festival. Richard Siegal lives in Munich, Frankfurt and Paris.
