To commemorate ZOO’s 10-year anniversary Thomas Hauert has developed a new piece that combines all principles of his previous research on the body and movement and most of all on the relationship between dance and music. Ever since their first piece ›Cows in Space‹ (1998), music has played an important role in the work of ZOO. Hauert experiences music itself as movement, as a source of energy and of unexpected movement qualities. It is not about making music visible, but rather about understanding it as an initiator of movement and as an organizing principle for the ensemble. In ›Walking Oscar‹ – presented at PACT Zollverein in 2006 – the dancers not only danced, but also sang or played instruments. This experience refined their physical interpretation of music and simultaneously influenced their mode and manner of movement.
