THIS DOOR IS TOO SMALL (FOR A BEAR)
- Performance Dance
It’s surrealist and pop art, poetical and utterly outlandish. La Libre Belgique The PACT programme for 2010 comes to an end with two new dates for Grace Ellen Barkey & Needcompany’s ›This door is too small (for a bear)‹, which was originally programmed for March. In collaboration with artist Lot Lemm, with whom she founded the production company ›Lemm & Barkey‹, Grace Ellen Barkey’s latest piece is an uncompromisingly surreal alternate world. No aspect of human life is spared her almost mythical characters: whether clownish tragedy or animalistic urges or spectacular failure. Frank Zappa’s motto, ‘To me, absurdity is the only reality’, is the thread that runs through ›This door is too small (for a bear)‹, a production which disentangles the magic of trivial objects and invites the audience to dive into surreal picture-worlds, where failure is met with laughter.
