The Future of Sex
- German Premiere / Ruhrtriennale performance
- Performance Performance in English and German and Flemish with German subtitles
According to a recent British study, the ‘National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles’ (2014), people in all prosperous nations are having significantly less sex than they did a couple of decades ago. Though sex is omnipresent in our media and in our society, we seem to be doing a lot less of it. We don’t go to bed with each other now, but with our laptops and smartphones. In a play about desire, gratification and abstinence, the Flemish-Dutch actors’ collective Wunderbaum and best-selling author Arnon Grünberg examine clues to the sex of the future. Probing the limits of our sexual desires and plunging into an erotic science fiction fantasy, they visit websites, interview young people, try out virtual sex toys and construct characters who live in a new intimate dimension.
