Following ›Cargo Sofia - Essen‹ and ›Truck Tracks Ruhr‹, Rimini Protokoll continue to investigate the possibilities of a mobile auditorium. Their new production revolves around the rules of a city that serve to coordinate our life in the urban community: laws, norms, rituals, spoken and unspoken arrangements, visible and invisible codes.

The protagonists of ›Do’s & Don’ts Essen‹ are children and young adolescents from Essen who travel with the audience through the city on a converted truck that has been rebuilt as a mobile auditorium complete fitted with a glass fourth wall. Questions about the relationship between safety, regulation and freedom arise as intersections, schools, churches, mosques, embassy buildings, brothels, public and private spaces pass by. How do boundaries affect our personal freedom and what possibilities emerge when we cross them?
