Brigel Gjoka
Brigel Gjoka is a choreographer and dancer. After completing his dance training at the Tirana Ballet School, he studied at the École supérieure de danse de Cannes-Mougins and danced with the Cannes Jeune Ballet. Further stations have taken him to the Ballet De L'opéra National Du Rhin (Strasbourg), the Staatstheater Mainz and the Nederlands Dans Theater. In 2011 Gjoka became a member of the Forsythe Company and performed in a number of works from Forsythe's repertoire until the company’s conclusion in 2015. Brigel Gjoka is Artistic Director of Art Factory International in Bologna since 2014 and curator at the Albanian Institute (New York) since 2015. Together with Riley Watts, Gjoka was awarded the ›Léonide Massine‹ prize for contemporary dancer of the year at the Positano Premia La Danza Awards in 2015. His own choreographic works include ›Delegatet‹ (2016) for Theater Vorpommern, ›Among Fog‹ (2015) for National Academy of Performing Arts Karachi, ›RECRECiT‹ (2013) for Kwang Tun Dance Company (Malaysia) and ›SWTH‹ (2013) for MaggioDanza Company (Italy).
