Frans Poelstra / Robert Steijn

Frans Poelstra (NL) Frans Poelstra started his career in 1984 as a performer in the Italian based dance and theatre group O under the leadership of Katie Duck. He has performed in numerous dance and music improvisation projects with artists including Steve Paxton, Mark Tompkins, Sasha Waltz, Benoit Lachambre, David Zambrano. Frans Poelstra has strayed into many areas of theatre during his career. He has been involved with dance, drama, music, improvisation and performing art and is a highly regarded teacher of improvisation. OR: As a kid Frans Poelstra stared more into the waters of the canals in Amsterdam than being at school. Now he still does not have any degree but he kept his dreams. Dreaming to be the next Jimi Hendrix, but he had no talent to play the guitar, he decided to work in theatre, the place where you can Professionally dream. First as a technician but later as a performer. Performing for him is a matter of keeping the channel open to think, listen and dream, without taking any responsibility for form, structure or interpretation. As a performer he wants to dance through all possible virtual realities of thoughts and associations.

He discovered in the collaborative improvisation-event Tarzan that Robert Steijn triggered him to be open, caring and trustful. Robert Steijn (NL) Robert Steijn studied Slavic languages and dance and theatre science in Utrecht, started as a dance critic in the local newspaper Het Utrechst Nieuwsblad and the chief editor of a Dutch theatre journal Toneel Theatraal, worked as curator and dramaturge at the NEStheatres, two small theatre venues in Amsterdam from 1992-1999. Worked as a dramaturge with choreographers as Gonnie Heggen, Desiree Delauney, Katrine Brown, translated several pieces of Tsjechov for the Dutch stage, performed in the ambient theatre company Love & Orgasm Amsterdam and made an installation-trilogy for Festival a/d Werf with prisoners, elderly people, and users of city parks. (1992- 1998). Made performances in galleries, with Jacquine van Elsberg. He co-organized with Katie Duck several improvisation (dance, music, new technology) festivals in the [NES]. He worked at The Waag Society for Old and New Media and started, together with Sher Doruff, a research unit called Sensing Presence.

At the moment he organises life-theatre rituals together with Lidy Six. His latest performances are "Facing the invisible", a solo with real time video, Tarzan in collaboration with Frans Poelstra, Gonnie Heggen, Steve Heather and Jacquine van Elsberg. In collaboration with Frans Poelstra he made "Frans Poelstra, his Dramaturg and Bach", which premiered in Impulstanz 2004/Vienna. OR: As a kid Robert Steijn played more with dolls than with cars. Now he still doesn't have a drivers license, but has already had a lot of girlfriends. Dreaming of becoming a dancer, but not excellent in sports, he decided to study dance-studies to become a dance-dramaturg. He happened to be the first dance-dramaturg of the Netherlands. Dramaturgy for him is a matter of keeping the channel open to think, listen and dream, without taking any responsibility for form, structure or interpretation. As a dramaturg he wants to dance through all possible virtual realities of thoughts and associations. He discovered in the collaborative improvisation-event Tarzan that Frans Poelstra triggered him to be severe, sharp, and Nihilistic
