More an art project than a band in customary terms, John the Houseband was formed in 2008 by dancers and choreographers Alma Söderberg, Dennis Deter, Melkorka Sigridur Magnusdottir, Anja Müller, Hendrik Willekens and Roger Sala Reyner. Inspired by the particular ability of live music to affect an audience in a direct and very primal way, John´s aim is to blur the boundaries between concert and performance, professionalism and amateurism, skills and dedication.The members of John the Houseband are also currently working with dance companies such as Damaged Goods/Meg Stuart and Ultima Vez/Wim Vandekeybus, touring with the Aerowaves dance network and performing their own work independently and in collaboration with various artists all over Europe.
