Mary Maggic
Mary Maggic is a non-binary artist working at the intersection of biotechnology and cultural discourse. Maggic’s creative interest lies in amateur science, participatory performance, documentary films and speculative fiction. For the projects ‘Open Source Estrogen’ and ‘Estrofem! Lab’, they generated DIY protocols for hacking of estrogen and thus demonstrated its potential for gender-hacking. Maggic studied biological science and art at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh) as well as media arts and sciences at MIT Media Lab (Massachusetts), and has featured at the transmediale (Berlin), the Sight+Sound Festival (Montreal), the House of Electronic Arts (Basel), the Jeu de Paume (Paris), and the Institute of Contemporary Arts (London).
