In the Balance

  • Sat 12.10.13 20 h

Vlatka Horvat studied theatre, performance studies and visual art practice (PhD) and works across a wide range of fields, such as sculpture, installation, drawing, performance, photography and text. Her works have been shown as solo exhibitions in Boston University Art Gallery, Rachel Uffner Gallery (New York) and Zak|Branicka (Berlin) amongst others. Horvat's recent projects include installations for the Greater New York at MoMA PS1 (New York) and the 11th Istanbul Biennale. Her performances were shown at PACT Zollverein, Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin), Alkantara Festival (Lisbon), Tanzquartier Wien, Outpost for Contemporary Art (Los Angeles) and Aichi Triennale (Nagoya, with Tim Etchells).

During IMPACT13 Vlatka Horvat presents ›In the Balance‹ her latest performance work investigating physical action and human presence in relation to objects. Teasing out the complex dynamics between the body and objects within a delineated spatial frame, the piece touches upon questions of balance and imbalance, equivalence and difference, by employing gestures of mirroring, repetition, action and reaction – producing a set of interactions between body and objects that are at once humorous and disconcerting. The performance is followed by a conversation with the artist.
