›Occurrent arts‹ is an expression that philosopher Suzanne Langer proposed for eventful arts. Digital media has further complicated the question of what constitutes an (arts) event, as events that happen at different times and in different places are now the norm. Does divided perception solve the issue or complicate it further? The question of the divided event and divided perception is not only relevant in an arts context but is also a key question for military strategy in a time of cyber-warfare. This lecture considers some of the questions posed by the concept of the divided event and divided perception in art and war, and looks back at the philosophy of experience of William James and A N Whitehead.
