In May 2019 the author Senthuran Varatharajah developed the work ›Ecotopia‹ for Burg Hülshoff together with the rock band RÁN and the architect and scenographer Alper Kazokoglu. It is an installation, text performance and music show at the same time. Varatharajah has explored the historical roots of ecology and its connection to colonialism. Against the background of the British colonial power using botany as a means of conquering African states, Varatharajah wrote a text in which he thematizes how racism and talking about nature are connected. In an artist talk with Fabian Saavedra-Lara, Varatharajah discusses his artistic work and gives some insight into his research for ›Ecotopia‹.
