JJ’s voices

Info
Canadian choreographer Benoît Lachambre, who already presented one world premiere at the PACT Zollverein in May earlier this year, has created a piece for Cullberg Ballett.Entitled ›JJ’s voices‹, it premiered in Stockholm in 2009 and is inspired by the singer Janis Joplin. To accompany her raw and sensual songs, Lachambre developed an impressive portrait of people in our times – of individuals at odds with themselves and conflicted between suppressed anonymity and the confused desire for personal fulfilment. Realised by seven dancers of Cullberg Ballett – a company renowned for their technical perfection – ›JJ’s voices‹ becomes an energy-laden choreography, in which the raw and unfinished, the painful and the frustrated are mixed with sensuousness and longing – just like the unforgotten songs of Janis Joplin.
»...a luminous beginning to a new era for Cullberg Ballet.«
