›Crossing the Bridge – The Sound of Istanbul‹

Documentary Film (German with English subtitles)

In his groundbreaking, newly restored documentary film, award-winning film director Fatih Akin takes us on an enchanting musical journey through Istanbul: German musician Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten) and his mobile recording studio set off to capture the musical diversity of this vibrant metropolis on the banks of the Bosporus and chart a sweeping portrait of Turkish music. In doing so, he discovers its extensive range - from electronic music to rock and hip-hop to classical arabesque. Using intimate interviews, lively street performances and personal encounters, the film weaves a story that celebrates the fusion of different musical traditions. The film is an invitation to experience the transcendental beauty of music and its universal, unifying power.

AYYUKA

Concert

Active since 2001, AYYUKA was one of the first bands to look back at 70`s Turkish music to find a new voice. Not caught up in the »retromania« but reincarnating Turkish Psychedelic within their own style, the band managed to develop unmistakable unique sound.

Right after their eponymous debut in 2007, the band shared stage with Sonic Youth and Jonathan Richmond. Heading to a completely instrumental music, their 3rd studio recording ›Sömestr‹ is a cult album for record collectors. Experimental with techniques of music writing, AYYUKA is flirting with genres like afro-beat, funk, bossanova or arabesque on their new EP.
