PAVLOVA 3'23"

With ›Pavlova 3’23’’‹ Mathilde Monnier sets out to expand her work to include the themes of time and its mere representation. She thus approximates the phenomenon of temporal perception through a major figure in the history of ballet. The title is a reference to the world-famous solo ›The Dying Swan‹ by Anna Pavlova, which represents a breach within the history of dance – for the first time a dancer started improvising within choreography. It was precisely at this moment that the three-minute ballet piece was endlessly striving to conquer finitude through the dance itself. In view of these conceptual musings, the renowned French choreographer has developed a contemporary dance piece, based on repetitions and overlappings, for nine performers – a piece that likewise strives to go beyond all endings.
