Barbara Matijevic / Giuseppe Chico
Speech! (Working title)

  • Sat 17.12.11 19:30 h

Giuseppe Chico and Barbara Matijevic are the authors of the trilogy entitled “Theory of the performance to come, or the only way to avoid the massacre is to become its authors?” which challenges our understanding of society, politics and everyday life as narrations. In their new project ›The Speech‹ (working title) which is part of the ›Powers of Speech‹ series at PACT Zollverein, they approach speech as a mode of discourse that consistently reminds us of the unspeakability of nature. It bears no claim to truth, originates from nothing but the creativity of the speaker. The Speech is therefore not about anything; it is always to someone. It is a speech that invites speech, reminding us that we are its originators. It is a speech that asks: If a man spoke his mind on an island where there were no human beings, would he still be wrong?

Production: Kaaitheater (Brussels) and Siemens Stiftung
Coproduction: PACT Zollverein

The performance at PACT Zollverein is made possible by the support of the Ministry for Families, Children, Youth, Culture and Sports of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
