PACT’s WerkStadt, in cooperation with Essen’s Arbeitskreis Kunst & Soziales, invites you to a neighborhood party by and for Katernberg. Over 30 social organisations, local clubs, cultural institutions as well as active citizens from that district of the city and beyond will reveal the beauty of Katernberg and transform the small stream at the Freie Schule into a place of celebration, exchange and relaxation.
Enjoy a late summer day right on your doorstep with us and return home with wonderful memories: visitors can picnic on the gras, loosen up on the parkour course or win prizes on a treasure hunt. Saunter through the flea market, debate at a »democracy-table«, or go on a bike tour to the climate festival at Zeche Carl and back: all of this and more awaits you at the neighborhood party. Not to mention a variety of snacks and refreshments as well as numerous cultural activities waiting to be explored.
In the evening, the party will be rounded off with a live concert on the meadow, inviting the audience to enjoy non-alcoholic cocktails whilst lounging on deckchairs. The perfect finale for a wonderful day.

Info
We look forward to creating and enjoying a fantastic neighbourhood festival together with you! ›Tach am Bach‹ is a heartfelt project that has emerged from the different perspectives and commitment of the people in the neighbourhood. All those present should feel welcome and find what they need – whether that's like-minded people to celebrate with, help with orientation or good supplies. Here are the resources that our organisation team can provide to make everyone feel comfortable:
We have marked all the important contact points for you on a map. You will always find at least one person from the team at the info point to help you with any questions. Please note that part of the festival is on unpaved ground with grass and loose stones. Barrier-free toilets are available.
Should you feel unwell during the festival or wish to withdraw, a quiet room is available. Malteser Hilfsdienst e.V. will be on site to help you with any health problems. You can refill your water bottle free of charge at a water station.
Please be mindful and keep yourself and others in mind so that we can have a nice party together and celebrate the plurality and solidarity of our neighbourhood - for example, painting, singing or sharing a picnic blanket. In particular, everyone is invited to join our dance workshop ›Yalla, Dabke‹ and dance shoulder to shoulder. Dabke is danced in various countries, including Jordan, Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Israel. We see this dance as a moment of togetherness and solidarity.
It is important to us to ensure the greatest possible protection at ›Tach am Bach‹, especially for vulnerable groups and people who have experienced discrimination. The neighbourhood festival offers no room for racism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, antiziganism, ableism, sexism, queerophobia and classism.
