Leo Kees / Chikako Kaido
WRITING ON WATER & THERE IS AN ABYSS

  • Sat 09.05.09 21 h

In Leandro Kees’s choreography ›Writing on Water‹, the FTS dancers enter in ever changing formations into a live physical dialogue with filmed dance sequences compiled by media artist, Pipo Tafel.

›Writing on Water‹ plays with the resulting moments of surprise, irritation and changes of perspective which, in turn, open up new frames of reference. Similar to a cubist painting, some scenes show movement material from many perspectives at once and allow us to experience the past and the present, deceleration and acceleration, simultaneously.

The work of Chikako Kaido originated in thoughts on the subject of suicide. After her last visit to Japan, where the rate of suicide is constantly rising, the Tokyo born choreographer began to examine the relationship of the individual towards society and the conflict of inner emotion versus outward indifference.
